Virginia Vo Photography bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

I graduated in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA – Go Bruins! Enrolling in the summer, study abroad program in Paris was unquestionably the most memorable experience I had while in college.  All the places I visited in the City of Love, took my breath away.

Photography is part of history.  We take pictures so that we can preserve and relive the past.  Unless you have discovered the much sought after Fountain of Youth, then you’re probably like me – a person who believes that life is too short…  My favorite professor once said, “I am not sure what else is beyond this but what I do know is that life is all about memories; we need to remember and capture all of the unforgettable memories that makes us who we are today.”  This one liner hit me like an anvil because for someone with a two second memory, these unforgettable memories become forgettable rather quickly.  So it’s important that we capture the essence of time. How can we do this?  Uh ha!  You guessed it.  Yes, the solution is to take lots of pictures!  Not just ordinary pictures, but pictures instilled with life.

Aside from spending time snapping away with my camera to capture the beauty of idyllic moments and seeing life in different perspectives behind various lenses, in my spare time, I enjoy sketching, scrap booking, traveling, playing scrabble, watching movies, bike riding, camping, eating at new restaurants, snowboarding, and hanging out with my hubby, family, and friends.

Random fact:  Those who know me, know that my appetite for trying new food is insatiable.  I would try anything, yes ANYTHING if it’s edible, not just once but twice.  Throw me on Fear Factor and I guarantee, I’ll take the exotic eating challenge course!

This is my domain to share my photos, thoughts, updates and parts of my life!  Let me provide you with a personal and one-of-a kind experience resulting in creative images that encapsulates the joy and beauty of your special moments.  If you like what you see, please feel free to leave a comment or contact me.

Sweet 17 – Elaine Nguyen

January has been a rather busy month mainly from celebrating my hubby’s 30th birthday, but now that his birthday  is officially over, it’s time to get back to business!  Now I would like to share with you an old shoot that I never got around posting.  I took these photos of my baby sister-in-law in September when she was a week shy of her 17th birthday!  I first met Elaine, endearingly known at home as Mimi, when she was barely 4 years old.  Fast forward to 13 years later and now she’s walking the halls as a senior in high school.  Ahhh, as cliche as it sounds, time has flown by so quickly (sighs).  She has grown into a beautiful young woman with a pure heart filled of love for the world and I couldn’t be more proud of the person she has become.  Not only is she one of the sweetest and most kindhearted people I know, she is also a pretty darn cool chick!  Her eclectically awesome sense of style inspired me to use her as my muse and to capture her coming of age.  Love you Mimi! XOXO

Wedding: Diana & Nathan

I recently had the pleasure of second shooting a charming wedding with Tai Tran.  Love birds, Diana and Nathan, were so relaxed, organized, and fun, which made their special day unfolded beautifully.  While I was assisting Diana with her traditional dress, we had some quiet time for girl talk and a get-to-know-each-other session! :)  From our conversation, I learned that Diana has been with Nathan for 13 years.  Yes!  THIRTEEN YEARS!  I write this in CAPS because boy was I surprised.  Coincidently, my hubby and I have been together for 13 years so usually I am the one shocking people, when I tell them this and not the other way around.  It looks like we have met our match!  You should have been there as Diana and I laughed hysterically in disbelief.

There is something about weddings that makes me sooo happy…the laughter, joyous tears, and simple interactions amongst family, friends, and loved ones that radiates the atmosphere just sinks my heart.  Sometimes love can touch you so profoundly that you feel happiness even for those you have just met, and you feel their love for each other and it’s as if you’ve known them for a lifetime.  This was evident at Diana and Nathan’s wedding; their love was visibly strong and truly inspiring. Congratulations to a beautiful couple and to 100 more years of love and joy!

Canada: Whistler and Vancouver!

We just got back from a wonderful winter vacation celebrating Brian’s early 30th B-Day in Canada!  Our mini vacation lasted for 5 nights and 6 days leaving us yearning for more time in the beautiful snow village of Whistler and the hustle and bustle city of Vancouver!  It was quite an unforgettable and irreplaceable experience especially knowing that we were snowboarding down the slopes where the 2010 Winter Olympics will take place. Nevertheless…GO USA!!! :)

Here is a picture taken by an Aussie in front of our hotel in Whistler.  Yes…surprisingly there were more Aussies than Canadians in Whistler!  And boy are they tall and mighty yummy! hehe :p

This was taken from the balcony of our hotel on Robson Street in Vancouver.  Although there are no people visibly depicted in this photo, believe me when I tell you that Vancouver is the Hong Kong of the West.  Conclusion of Canada?  Canada is a true cultural mosaic.

Maternity: Jennifer & Jacob

Jennifer and Jacob are perhaps one of the cutest and sweetest couples I’ve met.  They have this sincere kindness about them that makes you like them immediately.  When I first spoke to Jennifer we instantly hit it off!  Two minutes in the conversation, we realized that not only do we share a common friend – Tyna (whom I must thank for the referral :) ), but also a common love for weddings!  We began to share ideas and before you know it, we had a game plan waiting to happen.  On the day of the photo shoot I was excited and a tad bit worried that they would freak out about the location, but they were absolutely open to just about anything and everything! :)

Jennifer and Jacob:  Thanks for being such troopers and great models!   Congratulations on your baby boy and new family! :)

The Boyer Family Portrait

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  I wish you all love, happiness, and good times with your family and friends!  On this special holiday its only fitting to post my first family shoot to celebrate the gift of life and family!  Enjoy!

I’m sure you’ve heard of Jon and Kate plus 8, well this is Michael and Jennie plus many!  When Jennie reached out to me to take her family portraits, I was ecstatic and nervous all at the same time!  After all, it was my very first family shoot and …she IS my boss!  Well the tables turned on the day of the shoot and boy did it feel GREAT to be boss for a day! :P

The Boyer family was a lot of fun to work with, not only because they were so easy going but because they had spunk, fun and lots of love!  Michael, Jennie, Austin, Wyatt,  and triplets- Jasmine, Oliver, Violet:  Thanks for taking a chance on me and giving me the opportunity to capture the beauty and love of your wonderful family. :)
